Fraserwood Project:

1 Hotel – Hanalei Bay

Princeville, Kaua’i

1 Hotel is set on the rocky hill overlooking Hanalei Bay. The design team set out to connect guests with the natural environment of Kauai. More than 30,000 square feet of indoor space was brought outdoors with this renovation. Timber, glulam and native vegetation were used throughout. FraserWood worked with the design team to deliver cohesive structural elements that satisfied the environmental, structural, and aesthetic goals of the project.

Fraserwood’s Role

Supply of Glulam, Heavy Timber, GrainMatched Glulam, Site Survey Precision Fabrication, two coats of shop applied stain, Steel connections, Delivery to site.

The Process

Cedars were used because of their natural resistance to rot and insect attack.  Solid sawn, Western Red Cedar was used where possible, WRC GrainMatched glulam was used when sizes made it challenging to source Free of Heart Centre Timbers, and Yellow Cedar Glulam was used when structurally required.  Stains and texture were used to create a cohesive appearance in the finished structures.
